Do you want to be successful? I think we are constantly trying to reach for our own success and also to teach our kids and grandkids and others over whom we may have some amount of influence. We talk to them about ways to be successful. We talk to them about hindrances to that success.
I was thinking about my own life and my own “success”. I have had people tell me that I could have been more successful if I had gone to work in the private sector. I still have people tell me that my “success” is behind me and now is the time to relax and enjoy.
As I was contemplating these things this week, I spoke to a teen who is struggling. Then it hit me, you know, sort of between the eyes. My desire once was probably just to be plain successful in general terms. But I realized that, over time, my desires changed as I drew closer to the Lord. My desire to be successful really morphed into more of a desire for my life to have significance, to have purpose, in God’s economy. He has a special plan for each of us and he wants us to have that purpose and significance that only he can bring to the equation.
Join me in encouraging those around me to desire that which is greater than just plain success. Encourage them to desire God’s best and to find God’s plan for them so they will experience the amazing, incredible, unique purpose and significance he has designed just for them.
I, the Lord, tell you this: I have decided what I will do for you. I have plans to help you to do well. I do not want to hurt you. I want to give you hope for a good life in the future. Jeremiah 29:11
